Journal #18: Sexual Response and Behavior

Russia:

In Russia the female is not known as the “weaker sex” compared to men like they are in many other places, but they are known as the “prettier sex”. They do not believe that women are weak at all. Women dress clean and neat and they do not wear sweatpants or running shoes in public unless they are on the way to gym. Men act as gentlemen; they hold the door open for you, give up a seat for women and help women off the bus. In Russia the biggest moment is getting married because it revolves around the love the couple shares. The woman dresses nice to find a husband and the man acts chivalrously to find a wife. Because love outweighs work, the woman devotes her time to finding a husband and raising kids. Once she finds a husband she sets aside career to until their kids are in grade school.

Japan:

In Japan a husband will only spend about 20 minutes doing domestic work, while the wife spends about three hours doing household chores a day. There is little conversation between the wife and husband; they only spend about 20 minutes talking throughout the day. In the household the mother is in charge of talking care of the children and the husband is limited to taking care of any household repairs and playing with the children on the weekend. If the mother isn’t able to watch the children or clean the house they aren’t able to ask for domestic help from others, but have their mothers help them. Even when the parents children aren’t around they called each other Mother and Father because it is a believed that parental roles are more important than their couple roles.
